BROOKLYN’S OLD SUGAR FACTORY SPARKS A NEW CREATIVE CURRENT
Brooklyn, NY - On October 20th and 28th, many will
taste how sweet it is across the bridge at the highly-anticipated Brooklyn
Sugar - the new, revolutionary artistic hotspot.
Consecrating a new space, a sanctuary for the imagined and the real, a
place to grow…glow…dream and activate: ‘HighWired’ at Brooklyn Sugar
presents a positively collective force for open minds and hearts. Beyond
its entertainment beams enlightenment…indeed a sweet, stimulating
experience.
Brooklyn Sugar’s grand opening double-header (LiveWired/SugarPunk)
features highly-charged stage performances, and sizzling dj sets from the
dancefloor’s finest. Twin parties + multi-dimensional artistic platforms +
14,000 square feet, all equals a mind altering, space-bending adventure at
one comprehensive site.
The former garage of the Domino Sugar Refinery, Brooklyn Sugar has been
transformed into a dynamic multi-cultural incubator. Colin Faber and Leni
Niemegeers, of SHED Studio, led the four-year development project with
vested creative interests. They designed an original space which combats
what they observe as the existing stagnation of artistic forms. Faber
explains, “(Brooklyn Sugar’s) dual structure radiates outward and connects
inward…flowing into the future.”
Through their constructive detailing in steel, glass, wood and concrete,
Brooklyn Sugar boasts a seamless fusion of historical integrity and
progressive genius.
On Friday, October 20th, ‘HighWired’ at Brooklyn Sugar launches the next
movement in music. On the upper level, LiveWired welcomes legendary and
befitting headliners, Burnt Sugar, Vernon Reid, Melvin Gibbs, and
Hindustani classical masters, Snehasish Mozumder and Dibyarka Chatterjee.
Comparatively, SugarPunk brings the surround-sounds of industry greats,
DJs Bryan Zentz, Stryke & Santos, and David Hollands, downstairs. These
varying levels are connected by ramps or ‘catwalks’, offering ideal
photographic vantage points. Fashion designer Magdelena Marcenaro engages
by sprinkling Argentinean ‘eye candy’ atop these airwaves with her latest
Fall collection preview.
With his 'Audio Gumbo' show on WKCR and non-profit arts organization,
Lovevolv Inc, Curator and Producer Charles Blass states, “Verily we shall
Rock Omniversally.” Executive Producer and Creative Director Colin Faber
asserts, “Everyone is looking for a new ‘home’ in Brooklyn.” Together,
they present a space of limitless impossibility. With SHED’s superlative
innovation, Lovolution’s production mastery, SugarPunk’s intense pulse and
the creative anchor of Williamsburg, ‘HighWired’ at Brooklyn Sugar is
destined to be a combustion of artistic euphoria. With boundless layers of
life, culture and subculture, only so much of the sweetness can be
anticipated. The spontaneous agenda rests within the eyes, ears and energy
of the beholder.
